General:
The train number in the picture is 92220 which
is the "Evening Star". This was chosen
simply because the picture showed night time.
The words "SHOWER OF RAIN" and the reference
to Dr Alan Foster should have told you that the
place was Gloucester. (Dr Foster went to Gloucester,
in a shower of rain. He stepped in a puddle, right
up to his middle and never went there again -
a children's rhyme).
The owl was included because it was night time
as was the black nightshade, the cat and the candle.
The lamp was included for the same reason and
also because Steve's father was a lamplighter
at one time. The initials "GK" on the
lamp post stand for Gene Kelly - you may remember
that a lamp post featured in the famous dance
sequence in "Singing in the Rain" -
again a reference to rain.
The other images are the ice cream and the matches
- both of which are manufactured in Gloucester
(or were when the book was written |
Key:
The roman numeral VI (6) appears in the picture.
Where is the time? Look at the face of the train
- it looks like a clock. There is not an exact
time here. The time on the clock is just before
8 o'clock. Look in the text - the word just before
"8 o'clock" is "at". Put this
in position 6 in the "key" message. |
